Question: I am planning a trip to Tehran early dec with my husband & 3 yr old son & 1 yr old daughter. i plan to go to tochal as we r from malaysia whr it is very hot, we want to see the snow. What days is the Tochal cabin/gondola open? Is thr snow at tochal at early dec? is it true that u can get stuck in the cabin if the wind is very hard?
also how cold is tehran in dec? really cold? i dont know since i am from a hot country. is it easy to get day tours or tour from the hotel without pre-booking before going?

Answer: Mount Tochal is a mountain in the Alborz range and a ski resort adjacent to metropolitan Tehran, Iran. The mountain has a 12 km long ridgeline. The highest peak, also called Mount. Tochal is a popular recreational region for Tehran's residents. A gondola lift, named Tochal Telecabin runs from Tehran to the Tochal Ski Resort and the modern Tochal Hotel, all as a part of Tochal Complex. There are many stations in between but if you want to see snow you must go at least up to the fifth station. In December there is high possibility to see snow mainly in last two stations. However January, February and March are the best months.
The resort is open from Tuesday to Friday and working time is between 8:00 and 13:00. In the case the weather is bad the tickets are not sold.
In Touchal generally cold wind is blown and the weather is minus Zero degree centigrade. Tehran weather in December could be between minus 3 at night to 25 in day but it is generally between 5-15.
For safety reasons if the movement of cabin exceeds a certain safe amount, (normally due to wind), the whole system will stop, to keep passengers safe, until the wind stops.

You do not need a pre-booking, especially if it is not a weekend (thursday or friday), you can simply get a taxi from your hotel to tochal (end of Velenjak street), buses are waiting there for you to take you from entrance to check point.
