Question: We are a group of friends planning a 21 days trip to Iran which is supposed to occur late March or Early April 2010. Now the questions that I have are:

1. Two of us are US citizens; I want to know is there any way to get their visa without taking part in a guided tour. The others are form Europe and don’t like group tours. So how should we solve this problem?
2. Visa is another issue, how much securing the reference for those two is safe? Can Iranian companies guaranty it or it is better to apply through embassies? Which company you suggest?
3. If finally there is no way unless taking a tour is there any cheap company offering cheap tours to comply with the low budget of others.

Answer: The American travelers to Iran have to contact an Iran-based travel agent and take part in a guided tour. The same company will apply for their visa, hire the tour guide and book the hotels. Securing visa reference number for the Americans takes about 30-45 days. After it, the visa can be collected in two working days by direct referral or in one working week by posting the documents to an Iran embassy.

www.uppersia.com is a pioneer expert agency in securing visa number and offering the cheapest tours for the American. These tours are available at: Iran tours.

Question: I am just starting to plan a trip 1 year from now. I plan to drive from the UK to india. Please could you advise the best borders to cross?? how long is a transit visa??

Answer: If you are British, there is not much difference in getting a tourist or a transit visa.

Transit visa which is less than 7 days can be short for you and is not extendable. You will need Pakistani visa beforehand for getting an Iranian transit visa. However, this is not needed for a tourist visa.

Travelers to Iran can apply for visa in three ways:

1. Fill in the visa form on Iran visa application, it takes about 3-7 working days to get your reference number and two working days to collect your visa at the embassy by direct referral or one working week by posting the docs to the embassy. You can pay the visa fee in cash in Iran.

2. Fly to Iran and get a 30-day on arrival visa at the airport. This kind of visa is issued for 98 nationalities excluding USA, England, Canada, Colombia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, Bangladesh, and Somalia. If your nationality is among the countries authorized to get it, you can easily collect you visa against offering your passport, a passport-size photo and about 10-150€(depends on the nationality) to the staff at the airport. There is no need to fill in any form beforehand.

3. Refer to the Iranian embassy in your country and ask for a visa to be issued for you. Usually this way takes longer time about 30 days.

You should collect your Carnet de Passage before commencing your trip. The Carnet de Passages en Douane (CPD) is a customs document that identifies a driver's motor vehicle. Many people drive to Iran via the borders. This requires a Carnet De Passage unless you wish to pay import tax. A Carnet can be acquired from your local drivers association. An international driver's license with translation into Farsi is highly recommended. Don’t count on chance and unreliable sources.

Petrol stations can be found on the outskirts of all cities and towns and in car-filled Iran, a mechanic is never far away.

Question: I will have two nights in Tehran, any advices about where to stay? I will be busy in the day time, just nights will be free.

Answer: Tehran is the capital of Iran. It is also Iran's largest urban area and city, one of the largest cities in Western Asia, and is the 20th largest city in the world.

Tehran has a diverse range of peoples, cultures and religions, notably a sizable Armenian community. Many languages are spoken within its boundaries as a result. The city is home to many historic mosques, churches, synagogues and Zoroastrian fire temples. Contemporary Tehran is a modern city featuring many tall structures, of which the Azadi Tower and the Milad Tower have come to be symbols of Tehran itself.

In general there is no 'public' nightlife in Iran unless you like watching Iranian movies or going to fancy coffee shops or shopping malls.

Some of the places to visit in Tehran are Golestan Palace, Niavaran Palace, Kolahstudio-an Art Basement, Sa'd Abad Gallery of Fine Arts, Glassware Museum of Tehran, Iran's National Rug Gallery, Reza Abbasi Museum, Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art, Tehran Theater of the Performing Arts (Te'atr e Shahr), Talar Vahdat Theater, National Museum of Iran, Darabad Museum of Natural History, Sa’dabad Palace, Time Museum, Money Museum, National Arts Museum, Ebrat Museum, Tochal Sport and Recreational Complex, Darband chair lift, Darakeh hiking trail.
