Question: What is the actual situation with international calls and SMS in Iran when using roaming service or local SIM cards? Are they blocked?
As I mostly intend to exchange SMS with relatives back in Europe and occasionally make a few local calls, would it be a better idea to buy a local SIM card? Is it better to go for Iran Cell or Talia for such purposes? How about registration and activation formalities for foreigners?

Answer: You can buy a prepaid SIM card of “Irancel” company which is available everywhere from the airport to the supermarkets at about 5 USD. You can send SMS to some countries in Europe.
