Iran Travel Q&A

I have planned a trip to Iran from 30 January to about 10 February 2010. I have booked flights (in to Tehran, out from Shiraz).

Question:

I have planned a trip to Iran from 30 January to about 10 February. I have booked flights (in to Tehran, out from Shiraz) and my first two nights at Firouzah Hotel, but haven't made bookings beyond that. I intend to get to Tehran, Esfahan, Yazd and Shiraz. Thats the background, here are the questions:
1. I realise that I am travelling during the lead up to the islamic revolution anniversary. Will travel throught the country be simple (i.e. buses not booked out, etc) and safe at this time?
2. I am travelling alone, and with limited ability to speak Farsi (although I have done a crash course in Arabic). Will this be fine?

Answer:

You will be safe while traveling unsuspicious and stick to general travel guidelines. Plenty of solo travelers both men and women enter Iran each day and travel in the country hassle-free. Knowing Arabic is useless in Iran since the language is Farsi. People were very welcoming, helpful and curious, especially the young people, who mostly know a bit of English and are very likely to approach you to ask questions and test their English.
